Environmental Education

I want to bring my class to the Plump Hill centre for a day visit, what can they study?

What emergency arrangements do I need to make for my school's residential?

Large groups need to have a car available for emergencies, a mobile phone and a first aid kit.

Are there risk assessments available?

Yes, all risk assessments are carried out in line with health & safety guidelines and through consultation with the Health & Safety Department at Shire Hall. The paperwork is all available at the Wilderness Centre for inspection. Schools are responsible for the risk assessment to cover the journey to and from the Centres and for untaught time on residentials e.g. evenings. Download our safety policy for further information.

Do residential groups need to bring bedding?

Yes, either a sleeping bag and a pillowcase, two sheets and a pillowcase or a duvet cover and a pillowcase.

Can I pay for my school visit through an invoice?

Yes you can, but invoices cannot be processed through school capitation. This has to be done via an ITV (internal transfer voucher).

Is the Plump Hill Centre at the same location as the Wilderness Centre?

No, the Plump Hill Centre is situated in Jubilee Road, this is accessed from the A4136 out of Mitcheldean. Turn left into Jubilee Road (first turning after the end-of-speed-limit sign) and follow the road for about three quarters of a mile. The Plump Hill Centre is sign posted and situated on the left hand side. Download the map for further information.

Outdoor Education

How much do the activities cost?

Please phone or email the centre with your dates and requirements. One of the team will phone you back with costs and details of what we are able to provide.

What outdoor activities are available?

Our fully qualified instructors can provide a wide range of activities on and off site. Please email or phone the centre with your dates and requirements.

Is a cleaning service provided at any of the centres?

Groups are required to clean the centre before departure. A charge will be made if the centre is not left in an acceptable condition.

Where do I pick up the keys for Buckstone?

On confirmation of your booking you will be given details of how to access the key. You will also be sent a reminder with the inventory a couple of weeks before your residential.

Is bedding provided?

No bedding is provided at Buckstone. Pillows and pillowcases are provided at Pwll Du and pillows only at The Wilderness Centre.

When do I pay a deposit?

Deposits are requested with the completed booking form and the balance due is invoiced after the residential.
