Outdoor Education
The Outdoor Education Team provides a wide range of full and half-day outdoor activities in addition to residential programmes for groups who are staying at The Wilderness Centre or one of the Adventure Centres in the Forest of Dean and Brecon Beacons. The medium of adventurous outdoor activity is designed to develop the personal and social awareness of young people. The value of this experience is fivefold:
- It involves all aspects of the personality - mental, physical and emotional.
- It satisfies the instinct for adventure and is fun.
- At various levels there is the satisfaction in facing and overcoming a challenge.
- It is a powerful and active educational experience, providing an opportunity to learn new skills.
- It offers an alternative form of achievement.

The Centre holds a licence to provide Adventure Activities and meet the requirements laid down by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA). More about what holding a licence means can be found on the Licensing Authorities website.
Risk Management
The Outdoors by its very nature involves an element of risk; such risks must be fully appreciated. There also needs to be a balanced approach to such risks which does not unduly detract from the benefits of the activities. To this end The Wilderness Centre Outdoor Education Team has developed a comprehensive Risk Management Policy for its activities. For further information on this please contact the Wilderness Outdoor Education Team.
